Shema – Lejl Imdawwal mill-Kelma

Matul din is-sena, id-Djoċesi ta’ Għawdex qed tiddedika l-Pjan Pastorali tagħha lill-Kelma ta’ Alla – il-Bibbja, imnebbħa mill-kliem tal-Vanġelu skont San Luqa: “U beda jfissrilhom l-Iskrittura” (24:27).

Fl-aħħar xhur, ittieħdu diversi inizjattivi ta’ natura pastorali, fosthom it-tqassim ta’ kopja tal-Vanġelu ta’ San Mattew lid-djar kollha f’Għawdex, proġett li seta’ jsir bl-għajnuna finanzjarja ta’ APS Bank.

L-inizjattiva li jmiss, fuq xewqa tal-Isqof Anton Teuma, se tkun: Shema – Lejl Imdawwal mill-Kelma nhar is-Sibt 6 ta’ Mejju 2023, bejn is-7.00pm u 12.00am. L-isem ta’ din l-attività hu meħud mill-kelma Lhudija Shema, “Isma’, Iżrael”, l-ewwel kelma tat-talba biblika li kull Lhudi kien jitlob ta’ kuljum (Dewt 6:4-5).

L-attività se tkun tikkonsisti f’diversi attrazzjonijiet b’xejn fil-qalba tal-Belt Victoria, li b’xi mod kollha sa jkollhom rabta mal-Kelma ta’ Alla. Dan il-lejl tas-6 ta’ Mejju se jkun tassew ‘imdawwal mill-Kelma ta’ Alla’, u għalhekk ser jieħu forma ta’ notte bianca. L-attivitajiet ivarjaw minn wirja li toffri lil min iżurha esperjenza ħajja, għal kunċerti mużikali, għal esebizzjonijiet fil-beraħ minn artisti lokali, għal bejgħ ta’ ikel b’tema biblika, kif ukoll attivitajiet immirati għat-tfal. Għal dan il-għan se jintużaw kemm knejjes u binjiet pubbliċi, u kemm pjazez u toroq, fejn il-pubbliku, bl-għajnuna ta’ mappa, ikun jista’ jdur minn attrazzjoni għall-oħra u jitgħallem dwar il-kontenut u l-messaġġ tal-Iskrittura Mqaddsa.

Shema – Lejl Imdawwal se jsir bl-involviment kemm ta’ komunitajiet u gruppi fil-Knisja f’Għawdex, u kemm ta’ artisti individwali, bl-għan li barra l-messaġġ prinċipali reliġjuż jippromovi wkoll il-kultura u t-tradizzjonijiet lokali. Fost dawn hemm l-Animae Gospel Choir taħt id-direzzjoni ta’ Pamela Bezzina li se jagħti l-kunċert tal-għeluq fi Pjazza Indipendenza, il-Cash Trio, l-Echo String Ensemble, il-Kor Gaulitanus, il-Kor Djoċesan taż-Żgħażagħ, is-sopran Miriam Cauchi u l-arpista Caroline Muscat, il-Beta Entertainment Theatre Company, il-kok rinomat George Borg, l-opinjonista Peppi Azzopardi, u diversi oħrajn.

Fil-Bitħa tal-Kurja Veskovili fi Triq ir-Repubblika, is-Sibt fl-10.00am il-pubbliku hu mistieden għal preżentazzjoni dwar sejbiet arkeoloġiċi fis-Sinagoga ta’ Galilei Huquq (c. seklu 5 WK) u taħdita dwar il-Manuskritti tal-Baħar il-Mejjet minn Dr Dennis Mizzi, mid-Dipartiment tal-Istudji Orjentali tal-Università ta’ Malta, waqt li fl-istess post, filgħaxija, diversi qarrejja professjonali jkunu jaqraw siltiet mill-Iskrittura Mqaddsa.

SHEMA – A NIGHT ENLIGHTENED BY THE WORD

Throughout this year, the Diocese of Gozo is dedicating its Pastoral Plan to the Word of God – the Bible, inspired by the words from the Gospel of St Luke: “And he began to explain to them the Holy Scriptures” (24:27).

During the last months, various pastoral initiatives took place, including the handing out of copies of the Gospel of St Matthew in all Gozitan households, a project that took place through the financial aid of APS Bank.

The next initiative, in line with the wish of Bishop Anton Teuma, will be: Shema – A Night Enlightened by the Word which will take place on Saturday 6 May 2023, between 7.00pm and midnight. The name of the activity is inspired by the Jewish word Shema: “Hear, o Israel” (Deut 6:45), the first words of a daily Jewish prayer in the Bible.

The activity will consist in various free attractions in the centre of Victoria, which are somehow related to the Word of God. This night will be ‘truly enlightened by the Word of God’ and will therefore take the form of a notte bianca. The activities vary from an exhibition which features a living experience of the Word of Gozo, musical concerts, outdoor exhibitions by local artists, food for sale carrying a biblical theme, to activities addressed to children. For this purpose, churches and public buildings will be used, together with squares and streets, where the public, through the aid of a map, will be able to go from one attraction to the other, and learn the contents and message of Holy Scripture.

Shema – A Night Enlightened by the Word will feature the involvement of communities and groups from around Gozo, as well as individual artists, with the aim of promoting both the religious message as well as the local and traditional culture. Among these, one will come across the Animae Gospel Choir under the direction of Pamela Bezzina which will hold a concluding concert in Independence Square, the Cash Trio, Echo String Ensemble, Gaulitanus Choir, the Diocesan Youth Choir, soprano Miriam Cauchi u harpist Caroline Muscat, the Beta Entertainment Theatre Company, the renowned chef George Borg, the local thinker and TV presenter Peppi Azzopardi, and others.

On Saturday at 10.00am in the main open space within the Diocesan Curia (the Bishop’s Palace), the general public is invited for a presentation regarding archaeological findings from the sinagogue of Galilei Huquq (5th century AD) and a talk about the Dead Sea Scrolls by Dr Denns Mizzi from the Department of Oriental Studies at the University of Malta, while at the same time, in the evening, various professional readers will be reading extracts from the Holy Scripture.
